Expanding Upward – A Stunning Media Room & Bonus Bedroom Addition

We recently completed a standout home addition project that brought two exciting new spaces to life: a theater style media room and a custom designed vaulted bedroom. Both rooms were created by building upward making the most of attic and overhead space without disrupting the home’s existing layout. The result? A seamless expansion that offers both function and flair.

The media room sits just above the living room and was designed with entertainment in mind. With nine foot ceilings, plush new carpet, and a rich, immersive color palette, this space feels like a personal theater retreat. We used Sherwin-Williams “Cyberspace” on the walls, a deep navy gray that enhances the cinematic experience while creating a cozy and dramatic atmosphere. Leather reclining seats, layered lighting, and built-in surround sound contribute to the complete theater vibe, making this room a favorite spot for movie nights and game day gatherings.

Dark, moody paint and smart lighting choices make this media room a show-stopper.

Over the garage, we created a brand-new bedroom that offers both charm and versatility. The vaulted ceilings open up the space beautifully, giving it a light, airy feel. For flooring, we installed a warm-toned luxury vinyl plank that adds natural texture and is highly durable, ideal for a room that could serve as a guest suite, teen retreat, or home office. The design truly comes to life through its two-tone wall treatment. The lower walls are painted a soft, sage green and framed with custom wainscoting, while the upper walls are wrapped in a modern floral wallpaper that adds depth, pattern, and personality.

Clean lines, cozy textures, and ceiling height give this room a big personality.

We also added built-in storage with stylish cabinet knobs and customized trim work that enhances both form and function. Every element was selected to complement the home’s existing architecture while introducing a fresh, current look.

This project is a perfect example of how intentional design can breathe new life into underused square footage. By going up rather than out, we were able to create two beautiful and highly usable rooms that feel completely integrated into the home. Whether it’s a weekend movie marathon or a cozy guest stay, these new spaces are ready to deliver both comfort and style.
